Minutes

The meeting started at 14:00. We welcome back our regular undergraduates after the spring break.

We started with a discussion of random objects in GAP.

We have recently been working on:

  • Alex Levine -- libsemigroups Python bindings - partitions
  • Collin Bleak -- AAA package for GAP
  • Fernando Flores Brito -- Fixing his pull request for identities
  • Finn Smith -- Improving translations code (nearly done)
  • Isabella Scott -- Matchings code
  • James Hyde -- Working with Julius
  • James Mitchell -- Working on a paper; helping Michael; working on gaplint
  • Julius Jonušas -- Finishing pull request for graph coding
  • Luke Elliott -- Still working on Python bindings for libsemigroups
  • Michael Torpey -- Finished libsemigroups PR; now making a Semigroups PR
  • Simon Tollman -- Working on gaplint with James Mitchell
  • Tim Bailey -- Familiarising himself with GAP
  • Wilf Wilson -- Correcting a few issues in Semigroups and Digraphs

We discussed coding style in GAP (multi-line strings etc.)

Olexandr Konovalov dropped by between 14:30 and 14:40 to report news on GAP. The new version, GAP 4.8.7, is finalised and ready to be published, possibly tomorrow.

Last week there was a two-day Software Carpentry workshop in St Andrews which Olexandr and Michael taught in. Those interested in learning more about software (particularly Bash, Git and Python) might be interested in the next workshop which will be in St Andrews on the 18-19 May.

Congratulations to James Hyde, whose thesis was recently accepted!

We all worked on our own tasks, collaborating and helping each other.

The meeting ended at 17:45.
