Minutes

Olexandr announced GAP release plans - version 4.8.6 will be released next week (in order to replace version 4.8.5 which unfortunately broke Smallsemi). James confirmed that we have no plans to make a Semigroups release before then. Version 4.8.7 will not be released before January, and will hopefully be followed shortly by version 4.9, which will include a new build system.

Olexandr announced that in January there will be a joint event between OpenDreamKit and CoDiMa at the ICMS, which will consist of coding sprints as well as more educational parts. There are no current plans for another GAP Days event.

We all talked about what we've been working on in October:

  • Michael Torpey -- Classifying the Motzkin Monoid's congruences; offering help at the Wednesday meetings
  • Wilf Wilson -- DIMACS functionality for Digraphs
  • Luke Elliott -- IsDirectedTree and IsUndirectedTree functions for Digraphs, the latter of which is an active pull request now
  • Fernando Flores Brito -- Learning about Git; reading about completely 0-simple semigroups and considering their congruences, using Michael's MT5991 project.
  • Isabella Scott -- Fixing and testing his code
  • Chris Russell -- E-unitary inverse semigroups implementation, and more recently a converter to their representation as McAllister triples; maybe this can be used to find all E-unitary inverse semigroups up to a certain order.
  • Finn Smith -- Bug squashing
  • James Mitchell -- No coding recently, but in the middle of removing the GenericSemigroupData object, and improving the interface between to the C++ part of Semigroups.

We discussed the status of these minutes, and where they should be kept:

  • On the Semigroups repository as present
  • On Digraphs and Semigroups in parallel
  • On a new repository created for the purpose
  • On a new webpage created for the purpose

We decided to go with the first option for the time being.

Olexandr left, and we all got to work on our individual tasks, with James and Michael acting as helpers.

We discussed upcoming conferences of interest, and decided to add a conferences page to the wiki.

Luke's amended pull request was merged, concluding his work on trees in Digraphs.

The meeting ended at 16:45.
