In order to complete the Aggregated Data (level 1) for BSE, reporting countries need to populate the following fields with aggregated data as specified in the BSE data preparation page.

The fields for the monitoring of BSE in the aggregated data level are:

  • Data check: not editable, contains error/warning messages which guide the user during the submission of the data

  • Type*: not editable, pre-populated with "monitoring of BSE"

  • Species*: automatically filled with "Cattle (Bos taurus Bojanus)". This field is editable and can be changed by choosing one of the following:

    • African buffalo (Syncerus caffer Sparrman)
    • American buffalo (Bison bison L.)
    • Buffalo (Bubalus spp. C.H. Smith)
    • Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer caffer Sparrman)

    • European buffalo (Bison bonasus)
    • Hybrids of genera Bison, Bos, Bubalus and Poëphagus
    • Water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis)
  • Husbandry system*: pre-populated with "Farmed".

  • Age class~: the available options are those specified in Regulation (EU) 999/2001:

    • <24 months
    • 24-35 months
    • 36-47 months

    • 132-143 months
    • 144-155 months
    • >=156 months
    • Unknown

Using 'Unknown' is discouraged. If used and, as a reference, the number of bovine samples submitted in a monthly report with 'Unknown' age class should not exceed 5% of the total number of bovine samples in the report.

  • Target group~: available options are:

    • HS: healthy slaughtered at abattoir and home killed for human consumption
    • FS: fallen stock
    • EM: eradication measures

  • Herd/Flock status~: prepopulated with "Not applicable"

  • PSUId~: prepopulated with "Not applicable"

  • Negative~: the total number of negative tested animals

  • Positive~: the total number of animals confirmed positive

  • Inconclusive~: the total number of animals considered as inconclusive cases or for which final results are still pending. In order to avoid/minimise the latter, it is highly recommended to submit the report with final results for all your cases.

  • Tested~: automatically populated with the sum of the values entered in the fields Negative~, Positive~ and Inconclusive~.

  • Unsuitable~: the total number of samples submitted for testing but not tested (due to the low quality of samples), hence not added to the total in the Tested field.
