CardMaker Game Crafter Guide

General

This guide covers working with The Game Crafter and more specifically working with their templates: Game Crafter Printed Components

This guide assumes a basic level of knowledge of the CardMaker application.

Game Crafter Templates for Card Maker

Critical Note: This only applies to version 1.0.0.1-A4 or later. If you are using an older version please see the instructions outside of this section below.

Download The Game Crafter templates for CardMaker

Unzip the contents of the file into the templates folder where your CardMaker.exe resides. You may have to create the folder.

Under templates you should see a folder called tgc_templates and over a hundred TGC(card type).xml files. When you right-click the Layouts node in the Project window you can select the template you need to create a new layout. There is always an Element with the TGC template image to help you with laying out your content. Be sure to disable the element before exporting!

There are rotated versions of each template (when the width and height are not the same). This can be useful if you are making poker cards that will be horizontal. Be sure to read the instructions on how to configure the front and back for your cards on The Game Crafter help site! The front and back may need a different orientation.

Pre 1.0.0.1-A4 Instructions

Download the Template

This is a no brainer. Download the PNG template from the Game Crafter web site.

Layout Size

Set your Layout to be the exact size of the Template.

Setup the Template Element

Add a new Element that is a Graphic type. This Element should be the top-most Element in the Layout Control window. Set the Element size to match that of the image. An easy way to do this is to click the Set Size To Image button. Set the opacity of the Element to 128 (really anything is fine, just not 255). Also be sure the X/Y values of the Element are 0. Now you can toggle the Template by double-clicking the Element in the Layout Control window.

Rotate the Template (if needed)

I highly recommend rotating the template image if you want to create a card with a different orientation than the default. If you do not you will have to rotate the Template in a CardMaker Element and I highly recommend NOT doing that!

Rotated Layouts

In my most recent experience The Game Crafter would not recognize your cards as the correct size if they are rotated.

In the Project window you can righ-click the Layout and select Configure Layout Export... In the settings dialog you can configure the desired rotation (90/-90) on export. Now you can export files oriented the way The Game Crafter will recognize.
