one has to copy others to learn the art of being original. Small projects contribute a lot in generating new ideas, because once you start copying you realize that you can add missing features yourself, i.e. you get the sense of what can be done to improve the existing. An artist cannot go about painting realistic pictures in one day, he practices by copying a lot of other artists before he could produce his original work. Similar is the case with building software, start small by copying small projects.
