I have propagated my mercurial prompt fixes from the Cmder project to ensure the branch name is always available, despite the state of the working copy.
Additionally, I have elevated the HG prompt priority (last line of the file) so the mercurial branch name, which always has a fixed width, appears on the left of the prompt, and the variable-width directory path expands to the right. Admittedly, this is a personal preference, but it seemed cleaner than having the branch name bouncing all over the place. You can dump that change if you want.
