In order to see that I have entered the right path to a custom brew location,
as a user,
I would like some feedback from the app that the path was indeed correct.

Bonus points:

  • if I can use the MacOS Path Chooser instead of having to type it in
  • If I can use copy/paste to paste the path from the terminal
  • if I can use select all (cmd-a) to select the full path to delete it

Also some logic would be nice, so that if you choose the brew folder, it can find the bin/brew binary inside by itself.

Ah, great point. I like the idea of using the macos path/file chooser since it's familiar and standard. Validating the path is also a must to make the user experience better.

Out of curiosity, what use case do you have for using a custom path?

I have a very old home-brew installation that lives in ~/Library/HomeBrew/ since the very early days of the project. I have moved it between many machines by just migrating my home directory. This suits me fine as it contains executables that I use ini my home folder and does not impact other users on the same machine.

I also occasionally use home-brew in local installations for projects to get dependencies (libraries mostly) for them.
