I saw the comment on https://github.com/vlang/vid/blob/80532b878123176d5380ecc0ed77e07716e8043d/view.v#L507 and would suggest reusing/mimicking the curated clipboard support as matured over the years in Neovim:
https://github.com/neovim/neovim/blob/master/runtime/autoload/provider/clipboard.vim
(that is the most advanced, seamless, and most multiplatform clipboard solution I've ever heard of)
