That we haven't had a release in a while doesn't mean the project is dead. We're also actively looking into adding new maintainers to the project, see #2376 |
And now on the issue itself; in the regular expression the & is indeed allowed as part of the email address. It is not different behaviour when &@ are right next to each other. Not an official source of course, but Wikipedia also mentions this; https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_address#Local-part So I would not consider this a bug. |
