Handle modal using script

I am trying to invoke the modal using JQuery in the similar way we do for bootstrap but nothing is happening, could some please advice on this.

$('#modal-scrollable').modal({ show: true, backdrop: 'static', keyboard: false });

Note: I have referred bootstrap.bundle js v4 from the official distribution.
