Is There A Way to Create Database Connectors?

Hey there! I'm evaluating SurrealDB for my project, hoping to run it on some kind of serverless, edge-compute platform, but I'm trying to understand if there is a way to create custom key-value backends.

From the API docs it looks like the required traits are currently private.

Hey there, wanted to check if there's any more info on this now.

I've got a use-case that I want to start working on soon, and I can run it on my own server right now just fine, but I want to have a scale-out plan for it once I'm ready to get more users.

I would really love to be able to run SurrealDB embedded on Deno deploy, but I'd need the ability to add a custom backend for Deno's key-value store.

As it stands, it seems like it might not be too bad to fork the surrealdb crate and maintain a separate module to support Deno KV. It's pretty modular looking in the source, so maintaining a patch on top of the core crate might not be too bad.

I just realized that maybe I could just make a shim that exposes an indexed DB API over Deno's KV store. Edit: Maybe that's way more complicated than I'm thinking... Edit2: Looking again, maybe not so much, I'll have to try that. 😁

Edit2: Or maybe I'll just wait for SurrealDB cloud. ⛅️ 🤷‍♂️
