How to change/replace the default "❯" prompt symbol

Good day all,

I've been following the configuration documentation on the website, and tried adding the following to my ~/.config/starship.toml file.

# Get editor completions based on the config schema
"$schema" = 'https://starship.rs/config-schema.json'

# Inserts a blank line between shell prompts
add_newline = true

# Replace the "❯" symbol in the prompt with "➜"
[character] # The name of the module we are configuring is "character"
success_symbol = " [λ](bold green)" # The "success_symbol" segment is being set to "➜" with the color "bold green"
error_symbol = " [λ](bold red)"

the add_newline one works; however, the symbol remains to be default chevron. I'm not sure if there are additional settings needed for that to happen or not. Any help/suggestion would be much appreciated! 🙏

What happens if you use starship print-config? Does it show your above configuration?

Additionally, add_newline = true is default. Therefore you should try add_newline = false to check if your configuration is actually used.

Also, there is a typo in ~/.config./starship.toml, the configuration is in ~/.config/starship.toml (without the trailing dot in the .config directory.

Very strange. What happens, if you put export STARSHIP_CONFIG="~/.config/starship.toml just before the Starship init line in your shell configuration?

PS: I do use symbolic links for my Starship configuration, and they do work.

I installed starship via homebrew, would that make any difference?

so, I've tried to load starship with a couple of different shells just to see what happends. It seems that in Fish, the config is loading as expected. But not in bash, or zsh.

Please try ~/.config/starship.toml (without quotes to allow ~ to expand) or "$HOME/.config/starship.toml" instead.

Please also post the output of STARSHIP_LOG=trace starship module character.

@davidkna ok, looks like it's trying to read from my home directory (~/.starship/starship.toml), rather than from ~/.config/starship.toml 🤔

And, after I added export STARSHIP_CONFIG="$HOME/.config/starship.toml", it worked 🎉
Not sure why it's trying to search in the home dir by default though, maybe I've got an export somewhere that messed this up 🤷‍♂️
