Currently, SnowFS does no zipping or compressing of any kind of files that are under version control. This discussion is the kick-off to evaluate the options we have to implement a smart binary delta compression into SnowFS.
Current advantages of no compression:
Very fast store and restore operations of huge files
Support for instant snapshots on Mac and some Linux FS
Thumbnails can be generated easily / on-the-fly
Versions or individual files can easily be removed from the repo
