[Question] Does slate support global variables?

TLDR: How can I have a global variables to use across all pages?

I'm currently using Slate and want to setup additional pages to retain documentation for older versions of our software. However, there's certain items such as the toc_footers content that I'd like to keep consistent throughout all pages, but would rather not need to update every page when they are changed.

How can I have a global variables to use across all pages? Is there a global config file that's not created by default that I should create for this? Anybody have customizations to support this? Another option is to use some of the variables set in the index.html.md file across the other pages. For this I'm assuming I'd change <%= current_page.data.variable %> to something indicatiing to always use the index data, although I'm not sure how to go about this solution either.

I discovered Slate is based off Middleman (my noob is showing), which was enough to know to use a combination of config.rb and data files.
