How to handle tons of bottom nav icon switching?

I was doing some testing, and while it probably won't happen often, I found that if I rapidly switched between bottom nav items (fragments) the application will eventually freeze up and enter some sort of broken state. In Android Studio, the debug window goes crazy and looks like some sort of infinite loop. Is there any way to limit user input after a certain point?
