This appears true of both new and longstanding TTRSS grains, so don't think it's due to TTRSS.

Grains appear to update feeds automatically which indicates the scheduled task is registered and working. However, this is what Grain Settings looks like:

Hm, it looks right on my own system; I checked the actual grain I use, as well as spawning a new one both on my dev install and on my production system and the task appears as expected. Note that for the new ones, if I switch to the settings immediately after creating the grain, it takes several seconds to show up for the first time -- but that's probably just how long it takes for the grain to get around to making it.

Is there anything interesting in the js console or server logs on your end?

Alright, let me throw a new curve ball: This happens for new and existing grains... on Alpha. It's fine on mine. :|
