Make the logo a bit larger or more memorable #279
Comments
Hey @blacklightpy, |
Ideas:
More ideas from web search results:
The idea is for a pulse to convey a connection to the network. The yellow zap over the purple sphere can also signify a sense of power or speed. By zap, I'm thinking of something with a flat top rather than a sharp top. |
I was thinking of the same, but with a circle around it to make it look more pronounced. |
I've been using this browser for a long time, but I've always had trouble finding the icon for this among others in my taskbar. If someone were to ask me what the browser's logo looked like, I wouldn't know what without taking a closer look at it, because it doesn't take up the full icon space. Also, the main circle in the logo is smaller than the inner circle in Chrome's logo. Alongside that the really thin lines make it look like a fuzzy cloud of something which gives a sense of irrelevance, like a hollow husk of a man. Let him have some more drip and stand out.
The images have a black background to show the screen real estate.

This doesn't look that bad here, but it looks so tiny in the taskbar.
Attempt 1

I tried rotating it by 33.3 degrees. This was better, but less that perfect is nothing.
This one is larger since I rotated it. But it still has the issue of the circle being too small.
Attempt 2
Then I took it to GIMP and trimmed the height of the lines a bit. This looks more visible, but it feels like that can still be improved, by making the lines curve in a different pattern to adjust for the reduced height, perhaps by making the lines more separated or denser. Perhaps the size didn't increase much compared to the previous edit too.
Also, the colour might also be a factor that lowers its visibility, with violet being difficult to see when contrasted with a dark theme. The beta and stable editions might do a better job at that, but I haven't tried making them larger. They too look small in their original forms.
This is still not good enough, but goes in the general direction of being more visible.

How the final edit looks on my Taskbar:

It still looks small, but maybe it's because I'm not wearing my specs. But that is still a problem because I don't too much of a short sight and other logos don't have this problem.
Maybe it's be more visible on GNOME Docks with their larger size, but I haven't used it in a while.
