This is an idea that I just want to throw out here for the record, and might be done in the scope of the CLARIAH+ project.
Currently the front-end technologies used in flat are fairly old and basic (jquery+js+css), and not leveraging the power of modern frontend javascript frameworks (angular, reactjs, vuejs). For sake of maintainability and extensibility towards the future, a refactoring project to such a modern front-end may be desirable. This would be a fairly big and time consuming project however (3-4 months). I'd probably opt for Vue.js.
