Description

There is a discrepancy between the authorship and publication date details provided in the bylines and citations on our articles...

Screenshot 2024-05-03 at 16 23 28 Screenshot 2024-05-03 at 16 25 14

...versus what is transmitted to Google Scholar via meta tags:

screenshot_2024-05-01_at_09 07 56_720

This discrepancy has resulted in incorrect authorship and publication dates being indexed by Google Scholar.

Expected behaviour

The same authors and publication date should be shown in all 3 places:

  • article header
  • article citation blocks
  • the relevant<meta> tags in code

Steps to reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to https://ourworldindata.org/deforestation-degradation

This is relevant context https://github.com/owid/owid-issues/issues/1277#issuecomment-1887666984 and it probably makes sense to get in touch with Bastian when tackling this.

Good call @danyx23. Maybe @bastianherre we can give a heads up here that this underlying metadata we present to Google Scholar, that disagrees with what we see in the article, will definitely have been a factor muddying the waters there.

Thanks a lot for the heads-up, @larsyencken!

My current deeper dive into the Google Scholar citations indeed suggests that the incorrect listing of Max as an author trips Google Scholar up.

I'd be happy to chat more if that would be helpful to you!
