The basic workflow for AI driven programming is to discuss several files with the AI.
How can copilot get this so wrong?
There's no way for me to set the context, apart from what I read about #file: and that works or maybe it doesn't work who the heck knows because copilot tells me nothing about the context. OR after I set context with #FILE: to multiple files it then tells me that a subset of ONE of the files is in context - what? Why?
I SHOULD be able to choose to set context for my entire session, either as a specific list of files, or set it to all open tabs, or all the files in a directory. It should be easy for me to bring files in and out of context for the discussion. Instead, there's just nothing at all.
I ask it about specific files and copilot basically says it doesn't know what I'm talking about - how can it not know what files are when I specify the file name?
The thing that should be most in my control is context but in copilot there's no control at all. What's the point of copilot if it can't do this, makes it very slightly better than using ChatGPT on the web.
The most frustrating thing is....... is this really the best you guys can do with all the money and all the programmers in the world - you can't even implement context? I find it hard to understand.
There should be a mode in which the AI makes changes to my code and I can use the merging functionality to decide what to keep - where is that?
It's frustrating because we are now more than a year down the track and no doubt the copilot team has been given big resources and this isn't even like a "hard AI" thing, it's just basic functionality that's plain missing.
I'm paying for ChatGPT and trialling copilot but at this stage it's not much more than the web version of ChatGPT in a window in my browser and I still have to do all the copying and pasting. Where is the innovation and integration with the IDE? Where is the game changing?
