thread 'main' panicked at 'byte index 6 is not a char boundary; it is inside '<unicode not-parallel>' (bytes 5..8) of ...omitted......unicode-segmentation-1.10.1/src/grapheme.rs:553:22

upstream bug. see associated helix issue and unicode-segmentation issue

further notes: occured upon undoing a deletion of a character
