Sometimes can't execute the first command after launch (keyboard input weirdness)

Only noticed this on Ubuntu 22.04 and in a VM nevertheless but my gut says this is not VM-specific. If I launch TIC-80, sometimes the first command you type doesn't get executed after you press enter, you have to press enter twice.

Emphasis on sometimes, I cannot reproduce it reliable, happens on average once every other launch, give or take?

I'm on Ubuntu 22.04 (not VM), I don't remember seeing this.
Just tried several times in a row to launch and use help I didn't see it.
I'll keep an eye on this in the future.
