In haproxy there is a strategy called "leastconn".

leastconn
Selects the server with the least number of connections–it is recommended for longer sessions. Servers in the same backend are also rotated in a round-robin fashion.
It would be useful if implemented in Glider, now that is possible to balance TCP/UDP connections with support for Unix Sockets.
