I suggest you create a new Profile in which you disable all non-essential extensions, then see if the problem remains. |

You can switch to the pre-release version and continue with your work. There is an issue with the new release. It keeps asking for a password despite having already connected to the host. |

@ChitturiSaiSuman I just tried, and I get the same error... I reinstalled everything last night and it worked, for hours, so, imo, it's not the extensions or the dev containers version. Then today, I restart VS Code and the problem appears again. |

@gjsjohnmurray I have the same issue. I use bisect to disable all extensions but it still occurs. I try to reinstall code and remove .vscode-server on my server, and it doesn't work. |

@gjsjohnmurray Does it work when you install everything and run it for the first time like me? Then next time around, the error appears. I don't think it's Docker, but more probably a VS Code issue. |

@yukihiko-shinoda Wow, it worked! I removed the .git folder in some repo that I had cloned, and I restarted the Remote Extension Host, and the error message didn't come back, and now the notebook automatically finds the Mojo kernel as it should. |

I am also working in a devcontainer and I faced the same issue. I followed @yukihiko-shinoda instructions here and avoid mounting the .git in the devcontainer and now it works great. Here are the values of the I changed to the following to solve the issue : Even though it solves the issue, I still hope that we will find another solution because it is really important in my project to be able to see git diffs from within the devcontainer and the only way to achieve that is to mount the .git folder into the devcontainer. I have a same problem, I must downgrade to version 1.81 from https://code.visualstudio.com/updates/v1_81. I'm on MacOS and can confirm that if the git is not available it's working. I try to reinstall new version, and until I confirm that the parent git folder is safe (in devcontainer it is owned by root) everything works. But after confirm remote extension crashed. Downgrade VS Code fixed the problem, but that is not a good solution. |

I believe the issue may not originate from the vscode/devcontainer side. In my situation, it turned out to be a Docker virtualization issue on Mac OS. I switched from VirtioFS to gRPC FUSE and disabled 'Use Virtualization Framework' in my Docker Desktop settings, as suggested in this thread. These changes resolved the problem. It seems to be a good temporary workaround. @gloomylumi @jpbianchi If you're also using macOS, could you try replicating these steps to see if it resolves your issue as well? |
Disabling the built-in Git and Git-Base extensions were sufficient to get rid of this issue for me. I was opening a dev container with docker, vscode v 1.85.1. The issue occurred when no extensions were installed (well, except built-ins) so the Extension Bisect wasn't helpful as it doesn't account for built-in extensions. @chrmarti thank you for the workaround! Docker Desktop v4.30 has been released. You can now try to enable virtualization: VirtuoFS and 'Use Virtualization Framework' option. P.S. Personally, I've switched to OrbStack and it solves all my problems (performance, stability) with Docker Desktop, so you might want to give it a try. |

I'm using Dev containers to try the new language Mojo.
Everything seems to be fine, installation is great, the container is created and running on Docker, VSCode connects to it BUT I'm getting the error message 'Remote Extension host terminated unexpectedly 3 times within the last 5 minutes'.
I can press 'Restart Remote Extension Host', but then it happens again and again.
The container is running at all times, and seems fine since I can see the files in the linked volume from inside VSCode.
I've created a new dev container, rebooted, reset, etc, but I end up always with the same issue.
