I recently submitted this feature idea:
Make Melon.js a compiler plugin

While we could likely see performance gains that way, perhaps WASM would be a more appropriate target if we're trying to get the maximum performance. Rust is super fast so it might be a good choice, but there are some latency issues between JS and Rust I believe. Either way it might be something to consider in the future.
