This announcement serves as an open request for financial sponsorship of flask-login.
If you use flask-login for commercial purposes (that is, if you use it in software that makes money) then we'd like your support in the form of financial contributions.
Countless hours of community work have gone into flask-login: this work has been given away for free. Bluntly, this is not a sustainable model and will not continue; at times it borders on abusive and is objectively exploitive.
Going forward this project will be maintained to the degree it provides direct financial support to those working to maintain it. If the people working on the software others are using to profit from can't make a living for themselves doing so then they simply will not continue.
If you are a larger company and you use flask-login, please reach out to me directly. Ideally we can arrange some more significant and stable sponsorship which in turn would allow us to keep this project moving forward.
Relatedly, there is a deep, systemic flaw in the way we build open source software today and if that's something you have thoughts on solving I'd also like to chat.
