Describe the bug

Sometimes, when trying to move a window to another monitor (whether by dragging the taskbar item or by using the hotkey), it briefly shows up on the other monitor but immediately moves back. The circumstances that cause this are not entirely clear, but I have noticed that if the destination monitor is in maximize layout the issue does not occur. The issue also does not occur if there is only one window on the destination monitor. I will continue to update the bug if I notice other conditions

Expected behavior

The window should move to the other monitor

To Reproduce

  • Occurs on:
    • X.Org
    • Wayland
  • GNOME Shell version: 44.3
  • Distro: archlinux 253.6-2
  • Steps to reproduce, if applicable:
  1. Put destination monitor into grid layout
  2. Have at least two windows in the destination monitor
  3. Attempt, via hotkey or drag and drop, to move a window from the source monitor to the destination monitor
  4. See that the window does not move.

Current commit

I don't have a git checkout...I installed via GNOME extensions website. Version is 32

How much of this do you want? The result is way too big to put in the bug.

I've now seen a few variants of this. At least this time around I found a workaround specifically for the primary screen. If the workspace you want to move windows to is on the primary screen, you can have another workspace in "maximize" mode, move the window to there, then move the window between workspaces until the window is in the correct workspace. I have not found a solution on screens other than the primary, and this has only worked this time...I can't guarantee that it will always work.
