Correct way to use getuserbyphonenumber() method?

Hello,

I would like to validate if any user associated with a given phone number. From my understanding, I need to make sure it is in E.164 format. Consider an account with following number:
+60123331234

I suppose I should be calling the method auth->getUserByPhoneNumber('+60123331234'), correct?
However the method returns null. Any comment/suggestion?
