Reinstalling Windows (Steph’s PC)

When my wife needs to reinstall Windows on her gaming PC, here's the list of things she needs to do before and after the reinstall.

Back Up

• Anything important in Downloads
• Dreamlight Valley save/settings
• Final Fantasy XIV (back up launcher settings and the contents of C:\Users\Jesse Millar\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn)
• Firefox (make sure it's logged in and synced to the cloud)
• Logitech G HUB
• Razer (manually export profiles for each device in the Device [e.g. "Mouse"] > "Customize menu with the "..." button)
• Verify Steam saves are in the cloud
• Wallpaper images

Reinstall

• 1Password
• Armoury Crate
• Cricut Design Space
• Discord
• Dropbox
• Firefox
• Final Fantasy XIV

  • Disable keyboard game integrations (hamburger menu on left > games > integrations > disable each one by one)
  • Headset lighting

• NVIDIA drivers in GeForce Experience
  • Turn off “In-game Overlay”
• Razer Synapse
• Spotify
  • Don't launch at boot
  • Don't auto adjust quality
  • Don't normalize audio
  • Don't crossfade songs
  • Highest quality for streaming and download
• Windows
  • Dark mode
  • Hide everything (news, Cortana, etc.) on the task bar
  • OS updates
  • Explorer > View > Check "File name extensions"
  • Disable and rename various sound devices (Settings > System > Sound > Sound Control Panel then right click each monitor and "Test" to figure out which one is correct for my desk speakers; disable the rest and then rename for clarity)
  • Uninstall Skype and OneDrive (and any other bloatware)
  • Wallpaper
  • Turn off "Enhance pointer precision"
  • Change monitors to 144hz
  • High performance power plan
  • Disable stupid Windows notifications (Settings > System > Notifications > Uncheck last three boxes)
  • Set accent color
  • Set account avatar
  • Disable all features of the lock screen
  • Lock screen wallpaper
  • Configure clock timezone and week start day
  • Turn off Xbox Game Bar (Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar)
  • Disable unwanted startup apps
  • Unpin everything from start menu
