a mesh with mutiple colors

now mesh.setMaterial can only set a single color for a mesh.
if a mesh has many faces,i want to set every mesh with a color.how can i do 
that?i don't want to change a mesh to many meshes which have only one face to 
solve this promblem.thanks.
