It's more coloUrs and Mayhem! Woop, joy.

Report from Makin (#issuefication-zone):

"Teal Seer" is actually a plagiarized track, "Something's Different" by Paul Lawler

Links for Paul Lawler, courtesy FF:

Also from Makin (#general):

oh re: teal seer plagiarism yes that's serious [...] I was trying to find out more contributions to submit to the next lofam, and I got some crediting information and stumbled upon the youtube content ID thing

And Makin's original report, I believe from HSD, posted by Cello (#general)

Makin (patreon.com/makin), Today at 14:41 [04/19/2024]

just made an original homestuck discovery (this is why people stand me)

the official track Teal Seer by Kera L. Jones https://homestuck.bandcamp.com/track/teal-seer is actually just a reuploaded (not even remixed) copy of Something's Different by Paul Lawler, released in 2007

I first noticed because youtube told me, but the track was part of a now discontinued APM catalog album, basically tracks you can license to use in your tv shows or wherever, so it required using advanced internet skills to actually find the track anywhere

since this is abandonware, I hope no one minds I just post the track right here to prove it's really the same fucking thing, maybe very slightly slowed down (2:22 to 2:29) in order to dodge plagiarism detectors? (edited)

Artist should be Kera L. Jones, not Kera Jones (#general).

Also this (#general).

Makin: there's an additional layer in that someone has been very proudly claiming they wrote the track and we can't tell if they're the plagiarist or someone choosing the worst possible musician to impersonate

Lan: Teal Seer, or another track? Someone claiming so today (in reaciton to your find), or like, historically?

Makin: historically, but still long after the track's release

Followed up a bit later (#general):

Makin:
I'm in the roach discord but I actually contacted a guy who claimed to make this song and want to wait for them to respond just in case
I can't think of any defense, but I guess it's theoretically possible

And this ([#general][https://discord.com/channels/749042497610842152/749042497610842158/1230969576129302538), see also #general):

vriska: how did you even find this????

Makin:
youtube showed a "this track is sampling x" under an upload
the track wasn't anywhere on the internet but after research I found it on soulseek

Vriska also found it and at first added it's the exact same track (#general), but then noted some editing (#general).

Teal Seer and Something Different lined up in Audacity, the waveforms indicate splicing and such

Regarding this (#general):

vriska:
its obviously the same song but i think it was edited somehow, see this
i can dm it to you if you want

Makin: judging from the graph they just cut and pasted sections around

vriska: yeah
