Many of the issues filed for this package are unsurprisingly font related.

To help alleviate or even prevent these issues, the package needs:

  • better documentation on fonts
  • platform-specific helpers for installation & triage
  • robust platform detection (down to version & patch level) to ensure the right font names are used on the right platform since legacy operating systems like Windows mangle things pretty badly

Happy to help from a Linux (Manjaro) and Windows point of view, if you need testing on these platforms. I recall having problems with the fonts in the distant past and not resolving them entirely. At the very least, I can test things.

Cheers,
George

@hrbrmstr - what are your thoughts about ditching the current extrafont toolchain and switching over to systemfonts? While relatively new, systemfonts brings in OTF support and has worked smoothly for me on MacOS and Windows. I've been slowly migrating my own workflows over to systemfonts and so far it's been a worry free experience.

@davidski Aye. Def a good idea. Just a matter of time prioritization.

@davidski how are you getting {systemfonts} to work with PDF output devices (or, rather, which PDF device works with {systemfonts})?
