Ability to get CHANGLOG since previous release OR changes since a specified date

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I am frustrated that I am not able to get a change log since the last release. We follow semantic versioning and i need to automate a CHANGELOG since the last release - which I currently cannot.

Describe the solution you'd like
I need to be able to specify that a CHANGELOG will be only generated for the latest release i.e. compare last two releases.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Following a naming convention in tagging but the process is fully automated across multiple repositories so a better way is needed.
