since GiHub Discussions is out of the beta phase we decided to activate it for the Gammapy repository. We propose to use GitHub Discussions as a place where users can ask fo help, developers can gather feedback from users, to announce news from the project to the community and to provide a general space for questions and discussions about Gammapy and how to use it.
One of the main reasons for us to activate GitHub discussions beside the Gammapy Slack channel (https://gammapy.slack.com/) was that the free Slack only provides access to the past 10.000 messages. This means that past issues and questions are lost for future reference and as reference for users possibly having similar questions. We therefore encourage everyone to use the dedicated Help Category on GItHub Discussions instead. We also hope that having discussions close to the code lowers the barrier for users to contribute and become future Gammapy developers!
This is a community we build together, so please be welcoming and open minded!
