Upcoming (8.2)

Moved to Spring 6 and Spring Boot 3. Requires Jakarta package names. Requires JDK 17 or later, tested on JDK 17 and 21. Changed default log level from DEBUG to INFO, for environments that are not configured with dtap.stage at value: ACC or PRD. These are by default on WARN level.

Non backwards compatible changes

Transaction Manager BTM is removed. Switch over to Narayana Transaction Manager.
Only supports Tomcat 10.x or later. Tomcat 9.x or lower version, are no longer supported.
By default the PipelineSession substitution delimiter has been changed from ${ to ?{ so it's consistent with the FixedQuerySender. Backwards compatibility key useOldSubstitutionStartDelimiter has been added so minimal change is required during upgrades. Note that when using caches in combination with diskPersistent="true" you may need to purge your cache!
FileSystemPipes and FileSystemSenders now have new forwards for fileNotFound, folderNotFound, fileAlreadyExists, folderAlreadyExists. Some actions, such as removing a non-existing folder, were previously ignored but can now trigger one of these forwards. If such a forward is not defined, then the pipe or sender will go to the exception forward or if that is not defined either, trigger an exception, which was previously ignored. Adding the specific exception forward and pointing it to the next pipe will solve this.

Non backwards compatible changes

Larva package is renamed from testtool to larva. References inside the Larva property files to the testtool package should be updated to larva. Such as: org.frankframework.testtool.FileSender -> org.frankframework.larva.FileSender. It still works with the old package name in 8.1, as a compatibility feature.
CompressPipe pattern attributes have been deprecated, please use the appropriate parameters and resolve the pattern in there instead. The result has now also by default been changed to the file/zip-entry instead of a file location.

8.0.0 - December 23rd, 2023

Requires JDK 11 or later, tested on JDK 11, 17 and 21. Package nl.nn.adapterframework is renamed to org.frankframework. Removed many deprecated features.

Non backwards compatible changes

CreateRestViewPipe has been removed. It is no longer possible to open the old (blue) user interface.
IBulkDataListener has been removed. This feature was only supported through custom listeners and not tested.
IbisTester class has been moved from the CORE module to LARVA
IteratingPipes with parallel=true now throws exceptions. In order to suppress this behaviour please set ignoreExceptions=true.
Remove support for Maven Jetty plugin
Inside Larva configuration XML files, the nl.nn.adapterframework. package should be replaced with org.frankframework.. This is due to the package name change in the framework. Still works in 8.0 as a compatibility feature.

7.9.0 - December 14th, 2023

Non backwards compatible changes

IbisLocalSender no longer throws exceptions if exit.state="ERROR" situations, but provides forwardName 'exception'. The sessionKey 'originalResult' is no longer used.
For sending replies from the JmsListener to a fixed destination the attribute 'replyDestinationName' should be used instead of a nested JmsSender, to avoid clutter in the debugger reports
Session variable 'id' has been renamed 'mid', session variables 'messageId' and 'tcid' have been removed.
Session variable 'exitcode' has been renamed to 'exitCode'.
Duplicate detection might fail for messages received after an upgrade if the earlier version of the message was received before the upgrade. This is in cases where a received (JMS) correlationId is used to send a response.
The ZipWriterPipe and ZipWriterSender have undergone major changes. In order to help the upgrading processes they both have a backwardsCompatibility attribute to revert to the old behavior. Please migrate away from this as soon as possible.
- The ZipWriterPipe with action=WRITE does no longer has its input as its response, but rather a null message. If necessary, the previous behavior can be obtained by setting preserveInput=true.
- The ZipWriterSender with no content parameter does no longer has its input as its response, but rather a null message.
- The ZipWriterPipe CLOSE action will now return the ZIP archive! It is no longer required to create a file first (with action OPEN) nor is it required to specify a filename on the OPEN action.
Parameter with an attribute value set to an empty string will have the empty string as result. Previously the input message would be used. This behaviour can be reobtained by settin: defaultValueMethod="input".
Larva context has changed from '/larva' to '/iaf/larva'.
Larva default timeout has been decreased to 10s, and to 2s for local tests
The CMIS, Aspose and AWS modules have been added to our webapp artifact. The servlet endpoints are disabled by default.
- In order to enable the CMIS endpoints either of the following properties must be set: servlet.AtomPub10.enabled=true, servlet.AtomPub11.enabled=true, servlet.WebServices10.enabled=true, servlet.WebServices11.enabled=true or servlet.BrowserBinding.enabled=true
Some API endpoints have been deprecated. Users are encouraged to change over to the new API, however in order to restore the deprecated functionality the property 'iaf-api.allowDeprecated' can be set to true.
ApiListener eTag generation has been disabled by default, set api.etag.enabled=true to enable default etag generation.

HttpSender no longer treats input message as parameters by default. For 7.7 compatibility, set attribute treatInputMessageAsParameters=true
WebServiceListener does no longer (simultaneously) bind to the listener-name AND address attribute.
Larva httpRequest parameter is no longer supported
Json2XmlValidator input format session key prefix changed from "Json2XmlValidator.inputformat " to "Json2XmlValidator.inputFormat " (capital F)
property xml.namespaceAware.default=true by default. When set to false, parsing is done via a DOM source, or namespaces are removed before XSLT transformations.
Parameter handling for types Node and DomDoc is namespace aware, starting from version 7.6. To remove namespaces, use set attribute removeNamespaces="true"
Larva uses different correlationId in the format Test Tool correlation id(${counter}) for each scenario.
To use files in ZipIteratorPipe and UnzipPipe the attribute processFilename="true" must be set. Otherwise the data will not be interpreted as a filename, but as data.
JsonPipe version 1 has been removed. Json to Xml conversion has slightly changed:
- null values are rendered as '' instead of 'null'
- default array element containers are '' instead of ''
- multidimensional arrays with scalar values are not flattened into one dimensional arrays any more
MessageSendingPipe and descendants (like SenderPipe and ForEachChildElementPipe) no longer set presumedTimeOutInterval by default.

CompareStringPipe xml=true, now does an (actual) XML compare; ignoring attribute order and whitespaces.
Remove Struts management console (including the IAF-WebControl Configuration)
Server healthcheck at /iaf/api/server/health is now publicly accessible. It will return 200 when all adapters are up, 503 when one or more are stopped. Previously, 401 was returned in all cases when called unauthenticated
Property references like ${property} in configuration files are now resolved after the XML is parsed, and should therefor no longer contain characters that are invalid in XML encoded as entities. So characters like '<', '>' and '"' should appear 'as is' in properties, not as '<', '&gt' and '&quot'.

Logging library Log4j has been upgraded to Log4j2, versions are not backwards compatible!
The RESTEasy library has been replaced with Apache-CXF, this might enable jBoss hosted applications to cleanup their customized ClassLoader configuration
The StaxParserFactory has been configured to always enable XML 1.1 content. You can validate this on the Security Items page under XML Components.

Breaking changes

If a DSRA9110E (ObjectClosedException) is encountered see issue #2015 (DSRA9110E: ResultSet is closed)
It is highly recommended not to use any custom file which overrides a file from the framework itself. In case it was required to override a file, do not forget to update the changes when upgrading the framework version! It is a good practice to keep the .orig suffixed original file also in the project to understand what change have been made. The changes in the custom file might have been included in the new version of the framework and the file may be no longer needed. If the changes are complicated to understand please consult the Frank!Framework Team.

Make attribute firstPipe in PipeLine optional. When empty, the first Pipe in the Pipeline configuration is considedred to be the first. Similarly the success forward defaults to the next Pipe in the PipeLine.

- src-resolve.4.1: Error resolving component '...'. It was detected that '...' has no namespace, but components with no target namespace are not referenceable from schema document 'null'. If '...' is intended to have a namespace, perhaps a prefix needs to be provided. The use of 'xsd:import' and 'xsd:include' in xsd files in XmlValidator (and subclasses) has become more strictly.
- sch-props-correct.2: A schema cannot contain two global components with the same name; this schema contains two occurrences of 'http://nn/nl/XSD/Generic/MessageHeader/1, ...'.
  When using the EsbSoapValidator, don't import the CommonMessageHeader xsd in a main xsd but only import the namespace (because this xsd already exists within IAF). For using a deviating CommonMessageHeader xsd, use the SoapValidator.
- src-resolve: Cannot resolve the name 'cmh:Result' to a(n) 'element declaration' component.
  For validating ESB SOAP messages use the EsbSoapValidator and not the XmlValidator.
- Circural dependencies between schemas.
  Unused imported or included schemas can be ignored by using the validator attributes importedSchemaLocationsToIgnore and importedNamespacesToIgnore.
The use of 'xsd:redefine' doesn't work for schemaLocation anymore (still works for schema). It's deprecated in the latest specification (http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema11-1/#modify-schema) and difficult to support in WSDL generation.
(from RC5) From now all files in the log directory are in lower cases. This can affect applications which are case sensitive and use one or more files from the IBIS log directory.
