This project is inactive now and not even maintained. I don't recommend usage if there's tons of bugs that can't be fixed since no maintenance.

The next best things are:

  • Gleam - compiles to Erlang and JavaScript
  • Lumen - alternate BEAM implementation on LLVM made for webassembly

Seems like both require additional steps just to compile to JS, and I'd have to learn Gleam.

Lumen seems broken/abandonded for the WASM part. Note even all the builds failing. I spent days and could not compile successfully helloworld to WASM that can run in browser.

Gleam is pretty cool, good design decisions. I did not test the new JS compile target yet.

It may not be crazy to revive this project. The Elixir language has not changed drastically and the project is less than 10,000 in LOC total.

The WASM target will be a much heavier alternative to just being able to write Elixir in the browser.
