BombSquad 1.7 Official Release

So, as of last night, I've started the slow rollout of 1.7.x builds to the Google Play store. And since that is the game's main platform at the moment, that means 1.7 is officially shipping. 🥳

The rollout is still only set to 5% of the full user base to give me time to fix any bugs, but it's also rolled out to the open testing track. If you're running the Google Play version and want to join that, go here: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/net.froemling.bombsquad

I'll slowly increase the general rollout up to 100% over the coming days, probably after pushing a bug fix release or two for issues I'm already seeing in logs.

So at this point 1.7 can be considered feature-complete and bug fixing is the priority. So please holler here if you see anything that needs fixing or cleaning up. For instance: has anyone run into problems with Workspaces or V2 accounts, or is anything about them confusing or hard to use?

..and once the dust settles from this, it'll be on to the next steps:

• fixing documentation site and general wiki/readme improvements
• official discord server
• updating other current platforms to 1.7 (Mac App Store, Oculus, Amazon, etc.)
• some minor V2 account improvements (enabling V2 features for Google Play Games logins, etc.)
• ... finally onward to 1.8 and Asset-Packages!

One random question in general: right now the tools webpage is in English only. Would you folks consider that a big problem? Or do things like Chrome auto-translation make that mostly a non-issue? My assumption is that English-only is probably fine for modders since they have to be able to read English docs and code anyway, but my plan is that some general game functionality might require going through that site in the future (things like account-linking) so I'm curious if it is worth the effort to try and get it supporting multiple languages for the average player or not. Thoughts?

My modest knowledge of English easily handles whole website, so it's totally ok with me; although I just asked around and people would like to translate something themselves.

Yes , there is no signing in with Google Play option in the latest versions. You have to create a v2 account or you should use your device account.

If you want the characters , tickets , etc which are in the Google Play account , link the google play account with the v2 account so that the characters , tickets , etc which are in the Google Play account will come into your v2 account.
If you want to link , you got to download old versions of bombsquad where google play is available.
(Be careful while linking accounts , if you do it in the opposite way , all the data saved in the Google Play account will be gone)

You should still be able to sign in with Google Play (it just won't have V2 features like workspaces at this time). Are you getting an error or something when you try to do so?

On network test stuff is failing, here it is : (Idk if can open bug , idk about github)

_socket.getaddrinfo(host, port, family, type, proto, flags): socket.gaierror: [Errno 7] No address associated with hostname

These errors look like legit low level networking errors. Like it can't look up the address for things like ballistica.net which means it can't do much. Does it work if you go to ballistica.net in a web browser on that same device? Does restarting the device help?

And you should be seeing a 'Sign in With Google Play' button in the account section. Is that not there for you? Are you running one of the test build apks by chance? (The Google Play option is only in the version in the Play store)

Did you download game from Google Play? (not the https://ballistica.net/builds).

Also yes Eric my Google play stable release is working fine, ( including ballistica website on the same device). I actually had logged into ballistica in background for the account linking to v2 part while bombsuad showed that network error

Update : restarts or reinstalling doesn't help.
Google play beta release works too (1.7.5 again)

Can you try installing an older 1.7.x or 1.6.x test builds from the build archives to see if things work there? I can't think what would cause basic DNS lookups to fail like that in the app while they work in a web browser 🤔

Here r the results:
Test builds:-
clicking on v2 login for each version

-1.7.5 "no internet connection?"
-1.7.4 "loading" stuck at loading
-1.7.3 almost instantaneous results , (the qr code page) ie working fine

PS the Google play build of 1.7.5 is working as well.
One thing I found interesting is even online play doesn't work for the ones I listed (using device account)

Just to confirm: so you say networking is working for you in the Google Play 1.7.5 version? But not at all in the 1.7.5 Test Build?

Ok I think I know what might be wrong. I reshuffled some Android permissions stuff recently and think I might have accidentally killed internet permissions for the generic Android test build. I just rebuilt new 1.7.5 test builds (build number 20654). Can you try those and let me know if that's working for you?

Is there a way to link Game Center account of MAS version 1.4 to the new V2 account? I tried to generate link code with MAS version and get a 6-digit code, which seems incompatible with the link code of V2 account.

It is currently possible in a janky/half-working sort of way but it takes a bit of effort and I wouldn't recommend it. But one of the next things on my to-do list is to get the Mac App Store version of the game updated to the latest 1.7.X build, which will upgrade GameCenter accounts to be fully V2 compatible. Then you'll just be able to use the new V2 linking stuff. So if you don't waiting for that, hopefully it won't be too long.
