Editors have different strategies to write a saved file (and make a backup), some can configure the behaviour.
Users may prefer a write-in-place strategy in order to preserve hardlinks to the edited file. In a production environment, however, atomic replacement strategy is essential. So it would be useful to configure this behaviour per filesystem subtree.
