Chore: Repaint Vinyl in Spa

Emptying the spa revealed the extent of the rust damage from Miguel dropping bits of metal into it while he was welding … 😢🤷‍♂️

He did this while we were away Xmas and I only saw it when we got back … wish we could find someone that cares about doing a good job, not just getting paid to do as little as possible… 😢

Daniel says there is no product we can use to get the rust “burn” marks off… 😭
Changing the “tela” (vinil layer) will be around €1,200. 💸🤦‍♂️

@iteles im thinking we pay Piscinas Ramos a visit and see if they can help recommend the appropriate paint.

The poliester paint is bi-component (I.e. activated epoxy):

It’s eye-wateringly expensive per litre 💸
But if it works to hide the rust burn marks, relatively cheap!

@iteles dunno if you saw this one, but I’m just about to head to Leroy Merlin, and was thinking of stopping by Piscinas Ramos on my way to check with them if they have any experience with painting vinyl liners.

I think there’s not much to lose as any color is better than the rust marks. 💭

Yeah, never going to happen and he won't even apologise for something that is unambiguously his fault. 🤦‍♂️
I didn't do a single weld on that side of the structure. He insisted on doing them all.
He dropped the metal bits (welding rod ends) into the pool like a complete tool!
It makes me furious because it's not just the money and time to have to re-paint it ...
It sets us back at least another day which in terms of Burn Rate #244 is painful! 🔥 😢

Anyway, it won't be forever. Heading to Piscinas Ramos now. Will collect a can of the paint.

I shared the photo above and the following close-ups with Susana @PiscinasRamos:

Susana and her colleague Paulo (who she forwarded the images to and explained the situation) strongly advised us against painting the spots.

Note: they are against painting because they don’t sell the paint. They do sell the cleaning chemicals and a whole new vinyl liner if the cleaning doesn’t work … 💸🙃
If they knew about the paint, and could sell it profitably, maybe they would recommend it. 💭

Instead they recommended the “Spot Remover” and “Ion Magnetic” 🧲 which apparently will attract the iron oxide (rust) and thus remove it:

I don’t hold hope that this will work,
they look like actual burn marks like you see in truck stop toilets where morons stub/extinguish their cigarettes to maliciously burn the fixtures … 🚬🔥🤦‍♂️

The next action on this is to:

1. Completely empty the Spa of the remaining old water because the chlorine/salt will reduce the effectiveness of the “Spot Remover”.
2. Add new water, enough to cover the level of the stains.
3. Pour both containers of the Spot Remover into the spa “generously”.
4. Wait 1h for it to take action then
5. Add the Ion Magnetic to the Spa.

Note: I will be re-reading the instructions on the packaging before doing this.

For reference, I checked the price of the products on Amazon and it’s the same as Ramos were charging:

Yesterday afternoon I applied the "Spot Remover" to the spa: 👨‍🔬

Note: Yes, the water has some debris in it. We aren't going to be bathing in this water ...!
Having some organic matter in the water when it's being treated is fine.

Going to empty the pool this morning and re-fill it from the rain-water-fed well. 💧
