Describe the solution you'd like
It seems that there was a new api released under the radar to access the global media transport controls. Applications that integrate with it have that media popup on the top left including Spotify.

The apis were added in 1809. This should simplify a lot of things, and potentially there would only need to be one audio source that would be needed to be maintained as any application that uses the media transport controls would be automatically integrated.
