Why am I missing that it doesn't look like the the preview image in the repo?

I don't know who made the screen shot (@zenorocha maybe) or what his/her setup was.

But I know that the iterm or zsh theme doesn't add this functionality.
You will need to use something like Fast Syntax Highlighting or zsh-syntax-highlighting. I use Fast Syntax Highlighting myself.
