open source? #55
Comments
Sorry I’ve been really busy with other projects, will inform when available! |
hmm, code files in the 'next' branch have been removed, nothing merged into master. Don't get me wrong I have no problem with closed source but you do take effort in promoting this as open source. |
I gave you sneak-peek access to the private repo. Will have to clean it up a bit and separate as libraries. |
thank you. I'll take a look maybe I could help |
Hey any update on this 👀 Happy to drop a few bucks for a sneak peark 🔍 |
^same I played around with the new version and am interested in tweaking it for a weird game that I play with my family. |
I'd like to request a sneak peak as well. |
If possible, I'm interested as well! |
I’ll invite you later today, it’ll probably change quite a bit though since I’m rewriting some parts |
Hi, this project is a treasure! |
If you are interested in this "mod" i can send you the edits that i made into the old version and the image package for the cards and you can do the edit on your project. |
Sent you all invites to the deck.of.cards production repo, which is not coming public. I’m rewriting/restructuring it to a library. |
Can I get access too? |
Sure, sent now! 😉 |
@ginnocenti I can add italian version as option to deck.of.cards |
I love this project and I'd like to try and build out functionality to choose specific cards to include/exclude from the deck. Can I get an invite to the other repo as well? |
I sent you invite @bsevcik 😉 |
If any of you want to sponsor Deck of Cards development, you can use https://opencollective.com/deck-of-cards or https://github.com/sponsors/pakastin I have a lot of ideas for Deck of Cards. First of all, I'm creating flexible API for creating single and multiplayer games. Second, https://deck.of.cards be 100% open source with game library with single and multiplayer games, customizable cards (with user accounts + file upload) and easy-to-use table designer. As soon as I have the new deck of cards "SDK" ready, I'll rewrite/restructure deck.of.cards to use that and then we can start to develop it collaborately. The problem with the current one (as you can see by invite) is, that it's not a library, but has some db and session details saved, which is not wise to do publicly. Hope you respect that and don't share any of that information. |
How does the multiplayer work ? Everyone sees all the cards. There should be a peek option, to allow players to look at their cards privately. Then you could show the cards to all (reveal). |
Ah ok I see the player icons where not visible I needed to move the screen around. Can I also request access ? I am curious to take a look at it. |
Yeah, it needs some more thought |
Would love to see if I can help with basic dealing functionality so this can be used for cribbage |
Invited you as well |
Thanks! I dropped you some sponsor money 💸 |
Thank you! 🙏 I have big plans for the Deck of Cards library. It's not been an easy task to design as flexible as possible, but I think I will nail it this time! 😎 |
Looking forward to seeing this as a library. Sent you some sponsorship. |
Wow, thank you! 👌 |
This is a nice project. I wouldn't mind having a go at contributing if you are adding more people. |
Invited! |
Interested here in Amsterdam as well... I guess every developer is into card games now :-/ |
Welcome aboard! I'm building the new library version as we speak! 😎 |
New version is building up here: And graphics prerender library here: |
Hi
I’m looking forward to contributing.
I was trying to work out how to build a development environment but
couldn’t work it out. Hopefully you have some spare time to document that.
Nice work!

New version is building up fast now, hope you like it! |
@pakastin Are you still working on things? Taking feature and/or game requests? |
I am yeah, working with this branch: |
Awesome. Are there any UI improvements on your to do list? |
In a multiplayer game, how does one deal? I can move cards off the pile to different areas of the table, but it's not clear that they then belong to different people. And in fact any player appears to be able to flip over any card. |
There’s player bases for four players on top, right, bottom and left. I’ll work that more clear in the new version! |
Will it be possible to add more bases? We would like to use this for poker
with up to seven people.

More bases will be added yeah! |
Hi Juha Hope you're all well. Are you still working on this code? Apologies for being new :) . The code in github is the old code and the new code is on https://deck.of.cards/ , correct? Is it possible to get a look at the new code? Regards John |
Sure yeah, sorry I've been busy IRL 😛 |
Thanks Juha |
any chance we could run this code strictly in behind a .htaccess file for a group of old people who want to play cards? :) |
or, if https://deck.of.cards/ is going to be live for the next year+, any chance we could link to it for these old people to share a multiplayer link e.g. https://deck.of.cards/play/5fc496250577730b256cb46b and have a game of cards? |
deck.of.cards already has multiplayer, with links – what do you mean..? 🤔 |
Hi Juha. yes, we have tried the multiplayer on deck.of.cards and it's great. we wanted to use that code as open source if possible; or, if we can't use it, we'd like to link to it for a bunch of old people and make a little "HOWTO" document for them so that they could see how to go to deck.of.cards , create a multiplayer link, email it to 3 friends and start a game of cards and use the chatbox. |
Hello @pakastin I was about to attempt something like this when I saw your very polished project! I would also love to have access to the private repo of the multiplayer version if at all possible in order to a add a custom deck and tweak some settings to play games with family stuck in different places! |
Sent you invite 😎 |
Brilliant thank you very much! |
Invite doesn't seem to be coming through - is there a direct link to the private repo I can use? |
If possible, I'd also be very much interested in access to the new repo. As many others I'd like to adapt it to a card game (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarot_card_games) to play with family and friends :) |
Hi, i'm interested too. Thanks |
I feel bad to bother you about this again, but I'd also like to request access to the multiplayer repository, if you would be so kind :) |
Hi! Is it possible to have access to the private repo to contribute? |
Hello! Is there still work in progress on a new version? I would love to get invite! :) |
Any updates?
