Following this discussion on the mailing-list.

On the one-argument form of the switch sub-command, it is proposed to remove the automatic selection of a loaded module that shares the same root name than the module to switched-to.

What could be done is to make this behavior (the automatic selection of a similar module to unload) configurable to let people decide if they still want it or not. Of course for compatibility reason, this behavior will stay enabled by default. At least as long as we stay in the v4.x branch.
