GitHub facilities seem a bit clunky and inefficient for rapid coordination.

Should we set up Slack channel? Discord server? Something else?

What would be best?

Criteria:

  • Fast to set up
  • Easy for everyone to use
  • Scalable to hundreds
  • Free
  • Linkable to GitHub and other resources
  • Ability to branch... create channels or rooms per topic

Slack has graciously provided us 3 months of free use on their platform for this effort.

Please join our Slack workspace.

I will work on integration of Slack with GitHub so that the 2 areas can work well together.

In addition, a lean-agile oriented project management framework wouldn’t hurt, particularly for regimented progress visualization and specific task allocation.

Confluence and JIRA may prove inaccessible to some, in the way Github does, but these are palatable with a marginal learning curve:

I’ve used both. Basically the same. Both have Slack, Github, G Suite, etc. integrations. Just a matter of preference really. Im currently using ClickUp for a startup endeavor and love it.

I'm the CEO of AstroPrint, a software company in the 3D Printing industry.

We are putting together something to do exactly this. We are coding out a system which allows 'Cluster Admins' to put the files they need printed into a repository, then 'Printer Owners' can access the files, print them, go through Quality Control, then the Cluster Admins arrange for pickup/delivery to Medical Facilities.

We expect the code for this to take ~1 week to launch. In the mean time, we are helping in any other way we can (making introductions in the industry, for example).

If this would be helpful, please reach out to me! [email protected]
