I would like to know if there are any plans to introduce local real-time synchronization across the devices using p2p connections like Bluetooth/wifi-direct rather than cloud-based syncing.

  • This will help us increase the frequency of updates without overloading the sync server

  • Better control over privacy as everything happens directly via the clients

This is a very interesting idea, but it's not currently planned.

Have a look at https://www.imperialviolet.org/2023/07/23/u2f-to-passkeys.html (scroll down to caBLE / hybrid) to get an idea of some of the difficulties in using Bluetooth in practice across different kinds of devices.
