Newsbeuter version (copy from newsbeuter -v): 2.9

Other info you think is relevant:

I have 80 feeds and keep-articles-days 30. Newsbeuter is using more than 500MB of RAM. Is there any way to reduce RAM usage? With keep-articles-days 0 it was using more than 1GB! Why does newsbeuter use all this memory??

Hi! Newsbeuter isn't maintained anymore; I'm leading a fork called Newsboat. Unfortunately, it too exhibits the memory usage problem, and I haven't been able to figure it out so far. Some of other Newsbeuter bugs are fixed, though, and eventually this one will be, too, so switch already :)

Are those figures for virtual memory on Linux? I have 2.2G for VIRT, but only 161M RES (no swap). I also have almost 5k unread articles >.>.

M_SIZE (VIRT)
The size of the virtual memory of the process.

M_RESIDENT (RES)
The resident set size (text + data + stack) of the process (i.e. the size of the process's used physical memory).

1GB was resident memory. Virtual memory was 3GB or more.

Edit: yes Linux of course

@Minoru why didn't you take the lead of newsbeuter instead of forking to a new project?

@wonkydonky, I did exactly that, and worked on it for almost two years, but I coudn't publish releases on newsbeuter.org, so I forked the project. You can pick a few more details from my letter to Newsbeuter mailing list.

OK, I'm going to switch to Newsboat. It would have been very simple for @akrennmair to just give you access to the repo instead of never responding.

He did give me access—Collaborator badge on my comments proves that—but the newsbeuter.org site can't be edited through the repo, so I can't announce new releases and publish new docs.

He could have as easily had handed the website to you as well :)
