Resuming from sleep

I am unable to resume my laptop from sleep when I press a keyboard button or when I press the track pad. This works on my other Macs and Windows PCs. This occurs both when the laptop's power settings cause it to sleep or after resuming when the lid was closed.

If i manually place the laptop to sleep from the Apple menu (upper left corner), laptop will resume sleep using the keyboard or trackpad. If the laptop goes to sleed from closing the lid or from Energy Saver settings, laptop will not resume sleep when keyboard or trackpad is pressed. It required to press the power button to resume.
