Failed to start a fan manager for macbook por on a windows laptop? #554
-
Hi. After successfully installing Winesapos, going through the setup and being prompted to reboot, Winesapos hit me with a "Failed to start A fan manager daemon for Macbook Pro" error on boot despite being on a Windows laptop and will not let me proceed any further. I tried to google a solution but my search was fruitless. I am currently using it on a G750JW with said specs (Some bits are in French, but nothing that I would think really matters in this issue.) Computer model: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. G750JW Thank you in advance. |

The error you are seeing about the fan service is misleading. That is a separate but valid problem as, you're right, it shouldn't be running on hardware that is not a Mac. My best guess for why it fails to boot after the setup is that it has something to do with the hybrid graphics. I do not have a laptop with a NVIDIA graphics card to fully test. If you could get into recovery mode or re-flash the drive with winesapOS, go through the first-time setup, and then grab and upload the log file before you reboot, that would greatly help us troubleshoot the problem.

Really sorry for the delay. I had a lot going on this week. Here's the log file. I tried the second command you gave me, but It did nothing. I am not that knowledgeable with Linux, especially with Arch https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sXs0is-o0aWZ3UQ2sEihWmnGr-Qk408j/view?usp=share_link While going through the process, I did notice that my fans would randomly ramp up. Maybe it's related, or at least a result of the issue. Please inform me if there's any issue with the link or if you need any more info. Edit: Btw, supposedly the Linux support for the 765m is pretty limited nowadays so no harms in telling me it's a lost cause lol. I'm kinda just messing around with my old laptop. I do have a main desktop so it's not like it's an urgency. |

@SpinningHarlot Thanks for sharing that log file! The good news is that the NVIDIA driver (major version 525) did install correctly. The bad news is that the latest NVIDIA driver does not support the 765M. I found this document that says that the old 470 driver will work. https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/495.44/README/supportedchips.html Also, on winesapOS, only the "Linux LTS" kernel will work for NVIDIA (not "Linux SteamOS"). Here are some related issues I'm working on. I hope to support legacy NVIDIA drivers one day but we don't today. |
