<p>This week I only made one post, but plenty of not-public-yet things are in progress! I’ll give a few hints…</p><h2>New articles:</h2><ul><li><p>Over on <strong>my</strong> <strong>programming blog</strong> I <a href="https://blog.jakelee.co.uk/footnote-experiments-on-github-and-jekyll/">investigated footnotes on Jekyll and GitHub</a>, and made a few interesting discoveries about their limitations. Use them more, if you can!</p></li><li><p>I finished a post for <strong>my history blog</strong>… but it’s scheduled for March. Sorry!</p></li></ul><h2>From elsewhere on the internet:</h2><ul><li><p>Google research <a href="https://google-research.github.io/seanet/musiclm/examples/">published their paper</a> (and online examples) on “MusicLM”, a tool to generate music from text. Some of the examples are absolutely astonishing, such as its ability to receive an input noise (e.g. humming), and apply a style, or even detailed prompt to it. Scary.</p></li><li><p>I’ve been <a href="https://www.fiaformulae.com/en/races/">trying out Formula E this year</a> during Formula 1 downtime (I <a href="https://jakelee.co.uk/why-i-fell-in-love-with-formula-1/">wrote about F1</a> last year!), and it’s… ok. Short races, quite high pitched, but some interesting gamified mechanics (e.g. attack mode).</p></li><li><p>Want to play Chess on a GitHub employee’s profile? <a href="https://github.com/timburgan">Go for it</a>.</p></li></ul><h2>Other bits and pieces:</h2><ul><li><p>Last weekend I visited London’s Canary Wharf’s free <a href="https://londonist.com/london/free-and-cheap/canary-wharf-winter-lights-2023-map-photos-review">“Winter Lights” festival / art exhibit</a>. It’s great, wandering around the city at night spotting 20ish light-based installations. I forgot to take any pictures, oops!</p></li><li><p>Recently we had some rain & freezing temperatures, resulting in some very pretty landscapes. I posted a picture of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CnzPnhEsYrX/">a “spiky” fence on Instagram</a>.</p></li><li><p>Finally, I worked on a thing I can’t talk about yet, with a tiny tiny chance of ever seeing the light of day… but it might!
