It should be soon implemented as a normal store management feature for designer role the possibility to add some additional information fields in checkout process.
For example in Italy to sell products is required to know VAT number, SDI code and PEC email in addiction to customer address and company name.
This feature request has been discussed here https://mmmcommerce.com/Forums/g/Posts/t/367/Additional-customer-information-fields

In order to formally work on this, we should identify the most common fields that may be required in both EU and US, list them out, and what kind of validation each may require.

These additional fields should not be fixed fields, there should be the possibility to add custom fields so that everyone can add what they need in the checkout and not just fields that I have indicated as VAT, SDI code or personal tax code.
For example someone may need to add:

  • How did you find out about our eshop?
  • Which product would you like to be added to our eshop?
  • Is this your first purchase here?
  • Do you like this eshop?
  • Is this purchase a gift?
    etc.
For example on NBStore there are five extra textbox fields that you can use or not in the template as customizable fields but the best solution could be the one used by Ventrian Property Agent with Custom Fields, there you can add any fields you want and configure each one as a textbox, doropdown list, checkbox etc.

These additional questions are nice. What about the original fields you mentioned? Do you think these questions should be considered to be part of or treated differently from those other fields?

No, I think the solution should be one. Once you have found a way to add custom fields, everyone is then free to add what they need, including the first fileds mentioned.
